Defining clarity in terms that only jade can claim.

As with all gemstones, clarity is the term that defines how free from flaws a particular stone is. Most jade on the market is opaque (except for white jade where there is an abundance of translucent product available) so clarity is not always an issue. But the top quality jadeite can have a very fine texture and appear transparent, in which case flaws such as cracks, light-blocking inclusions and white or black spots can greatly reduce clarity and durability, hence value. Be particularly aware of cracks that break the surface, these flaws weaken the stone and destroy potential value.
